Remembering our Cantor Emeritus, Benjamin Z. Maissner z’l
Our beloved Cantor Emeritus, Beny Maissner, died on Saturday, July 19, 2025. It is a testament to his merit that he died peacefully on Shabbat.
Below is the recording of the moving and meaningful Funeral Service as we honour the spirit, soul, and song of our beloved Cantor Emeritus.
- Donations can be made to The Cantor Benjamin Z. Maissner Memorial Fund at Holy Blossom Temple or by contacting Mercy Afuye at [email protected] or (416) 789-3291 ext. 227.
Cantor Maissner was larger than life and he loved life. He served the Holy Blossom Temple community and the Jewish People with distinction — with boundless energy and talent, with vast knowledge of Jewish tradition, and with endless love for Israel and Klal Yisrael (the totality of the Jewish People). You may enjoy some of his accomplishments and recordings here: www.cantorbenymaissner.com.
We extend our condolences to you, who knew and loved Cantor Maissner. He was there to celebrate and comfort generations of your families for more than four decades. Now it is our turn to honour him and to bring comfort to his wife Hope, his children, Shira (Ernest), Tal, Rivka (Udi), and family, and to also comfort fellow congregants who mourn this great loss. We can begin to do so by leaving a note of condolence or by sharing a memory of dear Beny on Benjamin’s website.
In honour of Cantor Maissner’s 41 years of service, Cantor David Rosen commissioned L’Dor Vador by Cantor Jonathan Comisar. Though the pandemic delayed its debut, the recording is now complete.
