Life After is coming home to Toronto!
Dear Holy Blossom Community,
Loss is something we all experience, and finding our way forward—discovering what “life after” looks like—is a journey many of us in this congregation understand deeply. That’s exactly what the musical Life After explores, with warmth, humor, and breathtaking music.
As a longtime producer and partner at Yonge Street Theatricals, I have spent the last eight years helping to bring this extraordinary show to life. This April, after acclaimed, sold-out runs in Toronto, San Diego, and Chicago, Life After is coming home to Toronto to the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre (April 16–May 4).
The first time I saw it, back in 2016 at the Toronto Fringe Festival, I was in the midst of my journey with grief. My husband was gravely ill, and my world felt impossibly heavy. My business partner urged me to step away, just for an evening, to see this new musical. I didn’t know what to expect, but what I found was a show that spoke directly to my heart. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and most of all, it helped me begin to process what I was going through.
That’s the magic of Life After. It beautifully captures what it means to grieve, to heal, and to find a way forward, even when that feels impossible. The story is deeply moving but also unexpectedly joyful—a reminder that even in loss, there is light.
Since its early days, the show has had an incredible journey:
2017 – A sold-out, extended run at CanStage in Toronto
2019 – A critically acclaimed production at The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego
2022 – Another sold-out run at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago
2024 – Now, finally, it’s back in Toronto.
This 90-minute musical (with no intermission) features a stunning score by Britta Johnson, one of the most gifted voices in musical theatre today.
I hope you’ll take the opportunity to experience this unforgettable show. Below, you’ll find our Yonge Street Theatricals bio and some assets, including the beautiful song “Poetry.” It’s definitely worth a listen. Should you want to purchase tickets, please do so at tickets.mirvish.com. I
I look forward to seeing you at the theatre.
Kind regards,
Linda Barnett
