The Music of Yom HaShoah
This past week marked the commemoration of Yom Hashoa. Music and powerful lyrics served as a language that could express the innermost feelings of those held in concentration camps. Sometimes, this music also became a vehicle to entertain the ghetto police and would extend the lives of those Jews who were composers or authors.
Below are two of these musical gems that capture the essence of music composed and sung during the Holocaust.
“Eli Eli Lama Azavtani” sung by Cantor David Rosen as an interfaith offering at Metropolitan Community Church as part of their Palm Sunday Service.
“Moshelach Shlomealach” is a recording of our Cantor Emeritus Benjamin Maissner singing this beloved tune.
