Today in class we learned the difference between mitzvot, (commandments) and Minhagim (customs). We talked about the importance of Se’licha (forgiveness) as it is time to ask for forgiveness during the Ten Days of Repentance or Atonement between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. As we started to learn last week, when we read the piyut – “Unetane Tokef” we finished our examination of it today by writing how we feel about it. As your child what he/she wrote. We also listened to the melody of Kol Nidrei, the opening prayer on the evening of Yom Kippur.
As a part of our general curriculum, we learned that the Bible has three parts: Torah, Prophets and Writings. In Hebrew it is called Tanach.
ת – for Torah
נ – for Nevi’im
כ – for Ketuvim
Right after the holidays we will start learning about the Prophets.
During our Hebrew lesson we continue working on the first prayer of the Amidah, Avot v’Imahot, (fathers and mothers) as well as learning two prefixes.
AND is Ve, and THE is Ha, and a suffix US/OUR is Nu . We are working on fluent reading and trying to read accurately. As the time is so short, please ask your child to read to you or to their siblings, or read with the help of the computer, as I already sent you the link. We have two weeks to do so.
