The Reform Movement has a unique place in the Jewish pantheon by virtue of of Tikun Olam. We seek to make the world a better place, not just for us, but for all. It is the hope that advancing the greater good, that which is right, that motivates us to be brave, to lead rather than follow, and to be foundation players in the advance of our community.
Holy Blossom within the Reform Movement has also been a leader. Our clergy, our lay leadership and our membership as a whole have embraced one signal social issue after another. And we have made a difference. It is our distinguishing role and legacy.
Consider Civil Rights, gays, The Roma, Out of the Cold, dementia, human rights, interfaith dialogue. We have led the way, and we will continue to do so.
The Reform community is embracing a growing understanding and involvement with our Aboriginal fellow Canadians. Across the city and the country we are learning, engaging and coming to be welcome partners. Bob Rae, a Premier, met with us earlier this year to offer his perspective and wisdom. Many of us are already involved as individuals
The Rt. Honourable Paul Martin, a Prime Minister, has taken on our Aboriginal community as a life passion. Education is his focus, something that speaks deeply to our Jewish Values. He will be with us this coming Thursday, April 10th at 7:30, having spent the better part of the day with our community. He sees Holy Blossom as a beacon, a place to which he can bring his message to a welcoming and involved membership.
It is in our legacy to understand the compelling social issues of our times, and this will be a splendid opportunity to build on that tradition.
Do join us, and bring your friends.
