As a follow up to last week’s visit to the Holocaust Centre, we debriefed both our visit and our learning with guest teacher Geri Durbin. We explored what stood out for us, what was new, what did we know and what questions we still had. The students were reflective and able to connect the learning to their own personal histories. We read together the poem, At My Bar Mitzvah http://ronmossad.blogspot.ca/2010/04/at-my-bar-mitzvah-and-his.html, and reflected on what it meant to be here at this time of our own lives vs. being a 13 year old during the war.
Finally, we listened to an article about the Syrian refugee crisis and thought about how our people’s history connects to this modern day crisis. This was just the beginning of a very thought provoking conversation that I would recommend you continue at home!
