In just a week we will mark the beginning of our Jewish new year as we get together to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. I wish all of you Shanah Tova – may your new year be filled with health and happiness and include many opportunities to spend time with good friends.
Mondays @ the Temple, our synagogue’s weekly program for its senior members, also begins again and will meet for the first time on Monday, September 9 2013. We welcome back those who have been a part of the program in the past and invite those who have yet to give it a try to join us.
One of the most successful aspects of Mondays @ the Temple has been to provide a time and space where friends, old and new, can come together. And so we continue in our usual format with a speaker, exercise and lunch. You may even stay after lunch to play a variety of card or board games. We are including a brochure detailing times and programs for the first couple of months.
Last year we initiated a second exercise class with Shauna Sandler to enable us to provide two levels of physical movement. We will continue to do so this year. In addition we are exploring a couple of other add-ons to our program – a sing-a-long group to meet after lunch on the last Monday of the month and a memoir-writing class, time and place yet to be determined.
Once again we offer taxi transportation to Temple members who are not eligible for Wheel-Trans. Due to an increase in our costs, we are now charging a minimum of $10 (maximum $15) for a two-way ride. Arrangements for this service can be made by calling Elana in the Temple office the Friday before the program at 416-789-3291, ext. 221.
Throughout the year we plan some of out-of-Temple excursions often to local Jewish Theatre. This year we are looking into arranging group visits to a couple of plays at the Harold Green Theatre – New Jerusalem in March and Stars of David in May. We will keep you informed as these outings or any others we may plan are put in place.
The cost to attend our program remains the same: $3/session for Temple members, $5/session for non-Temple members. Friends of Holy Blossom pay the member’s rate (Ask us about becoming a Friend.)
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the Seniors’ Hotline at Temple, 416-789- 3291, ext. 517. Someone will get back to you soon.
Again, Shana Tova. I look forward to seeing you in the new-year.
