Mondays at the YEC
JTEM – Jewish Teen Experience Midtown: Holy Blossom’s ‘Post B’nei Mitzvah Program.’ Open to ALL students in grade 8+
Taught by beloved educator Geri Durbin, JTEM explores topics that are relevant to Jewish teens today. JTEM focuses on identity and choices: asking big questions, looking at issues in society and our community and how we as Jews approach them.
Through examining events that led up to the Holocaust, JTEM looks at the choices that resulted in the atrocities that occurred, the unfortunate reality of these choices recurring, and how we can avoid history repeating itself.
The theme of choice continues into a study of Israel – the choices around the State’s formation in 1948, and the choices that are made today within the country’s diverse and complicated population, and of course, the current political situation of post October 7th.
JTEM runs from 6:30-8:00 pm and is followed by HABSTY’s weekly lounge nights from 8-9:00 pm for teens of all ages. HABSTY is the senior youth group program at Holy Blossom and is open to any teen to come check out a lounge night event and get involved!
JTEM is open to ALL teens, regardless of previous YEC enrollment. JTEM also welcomes friends of HBT members. Contact Lisa Isen Baumal to learn more! [email protected]
“The two years of being in JTEM were the best years of Hebrew school at Holy Blossom… In class, we learned a lot about Israel and the Holocaust by watching movies and participating in discussion groups. The JTEM class has an amazing teacher named Geri who bakes for the class every week. We don’t even have to bring money in for snacks! The bonus of staying in JTEM was HABSTY: the Holy Blossom youth group, which is made up of kids from Grades 8 through 12…I definitely recommend you come to JTEM and HABSTY in the upcoming school year!”
