Kelly Baron, Director
I am a second-generation Holy Blossom member through my husband’s family, and became more involved in Holy Blossom a few years ago through the Introduction to Jewish Life class. I’m a big believer in adult Jewish education: my masters was cross-listed with Jewish Studies, and I’ve participated in the Beit Midrash since the IJL, taking both Rabbi Kaye’s classes on social justice readings of the Book of Proverbs and the ongoing Shalom Hartman curriculum.
But what I love most about Holy Blossom is the growing YAD community. HBT is indeed growing younger, and the younger generations are active, engaged members of the HBT community. I love meeting with new YAD members, especially those in IJL, and inviting them over for Shabbat dinners, holidays, and especially our YAD Seder–in 2024, we designed and compiled our own beautiful Haggadah that we’re looking forward to using for many years to come!
Outside of Holy Blossom, I have a PhD in Canadian Literature, and I work in research administration at Victoria College in the University of Toronto. There, I coordinate the Northrop Frye Centre, and I’m working with Adam Sol to build the Centre for Creativity, a new interdisciplinary arts centre at Victoria College. Prior to my PhD, I taught corporate strategy at the Schulich School of Business and York University, and I’m active in the Toronto arts community, serving on the board at the Tranzac, a beloved performing arts space in the city, and I work in community outreach for the Griffin Poetry Prize.
