Last month, our Grade 7 students participated in our annual Tzedakah Fair. This is a meaningful evening that exposes our students to some of the important agencies that are doing work in our community and in Israel, supporting vulnerable populations, and people in need. The Fair included representatives from: The Jaffa Institute, JF&C, JIAS, JNF, Leket, One Family Fund, Out of the Cold, Save a Child’s Heart, and Ve’ahavta.
Students spent the first part of the evening visiting each table at the Fair, talking with the representatives, and filled out a questionnaire to help them learn about each agency.
During the second half of the evening, students were divided into 6 groups. Each group was given $200 in cash, and were given the opportunity to decide which of the organizations they wanted to donate their money. Each group then presented their breakdown, and the reasons for choosing the organizations they would be supporting.
The cash came from our YEC Tzedakah fund, made up of the money we collect each week from selling snacks. Kol Hakavod to our students who keep donating to our Tzedakah fund, and who made educated decisions to allocate over $1400 of Tzedakah to important organizations in our community!
And here is what some of the presenters that night had to say about our students:
‘Thank you very much for including us last night. It was wonderful to interact with all the kids. Many of them were so insightful and enthusiastic about the evening’s program. They are a great bunch of kids! As a retired teacher, I would love to have many of them in my class.’
‘It was such a pleasure! You have such great teens at Holy Blossom. Thanks for inviting us.’
‘The students were thoughtful, attentive and seemed genuinely interested in what we do!’
‘Thank-you for the opportunity to be a part of tonight. It was really fun, the kids were attentive and well behaved, and I am grateful.’
