I have come to enjoy the sound of crickets – and not just because I am a rabbi who sometimes tries to inject comedy into my sermons. I love camp. I love sitting around campfires with a guitar, a few good stories and memories shared between 300 of my closest friends. I love sailing, basketball and pottery. And I love living on a Jewish calendar, with no distractions to a relaxing Shabbat other than those itchy mosquito bites.
Interested in a general camp experience for your children? Rabbi Splansky and I look forward to seeing them at URJ Camp George this summer with our own children. Interested in a sports specialty camp? URJ 6 Points Sports Academy puts Jewish campers in contact with outstanding sportswomen and men who integrate Jewish sportsmanship into their play. URJ 6 Points Sci-Tech is a brand new specialty camp for kids interested in deepening their knowledge of our world and their friendships with Jews from around North America.
Teens interested in social justice can join NFTY Mitzvah Corps, and start planning a semester in Israel with NFTY Eisendrath International Experience. Finishing high school, you may be interested in the Shnat Netzer program – a year of Reform Jewish living in Israel.
Holy Blossom Temple Brotherhood provides a $500 to all new campers at URJ Camp George. The Silber Family Centre for Jewish Camping at the UJA with the Foundation for Jewish Camp offer $1,000 to first time campers at Jewish camps. For information on additional camperships, please e-mail me at [email protected].
