Cantor Josh Breitzer
Cantor Josh Breitzer (he/him) joined the clergy of Congregation Beth Elohim in 2011 upon receiving ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. In 2025, after many years of board service, Cantor Breitzer was elected President of the American Conference of Cantors, which offers spiritual leadership and sacred music to Reform congregations throughout the world.Cantor Breitzer’s work extends far beyond Brooklyn. Named by The Forward as one of the best new voices in Jewish music, he has performed nationwide, appeared in the PBS documentary The Four Sons And All Their Sons, and is a longtime performer with the New York Festival of Song’s A Goyishe Christmas to You. His mentors include Yehudi Wyner, Cantor Lawrence Avery, and Dr. Jack Gottlieb, whose legacy he continues to champion.
A Clinical Instructor in Cantorial Arts at HUC-JIR’s Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music, he teaches and mentors students while shaping meaningful, integrative worship. An alumnus of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality’s Clergy Leadership Program, he is committed to cultivating dynamic prayer experiences and guiding future cantors.
Originally from mid-Michigan, Cantor Breitzer studied at the University of Michigan and the New England Conservatory. He founded HaZamir Brooklyn, teaches at URJ Crane Lake Camp, and has presented at major Jewish music institutions across North America and Europe.
He lives in Park Slope with his wife Donna and their children, Jonah and Gideon, and enjoys public transit, the New York Times Sunday Crossword, and a well-crafted pun.
Cantor Jill Abramson

Cantor Jill Abramson offers outstanding gifts and extensive experience to the DFSSM, where she has previously served as an instructor, a cantorial coach, and a member of the admissions committee. Ordained at Hebrew Union College in 2002, she will complete a twelve-year term as Senior Cantor of Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, NY, on June 30. She previously served for five years at Congregation Sukkat Shalom in suburban Chicago, IL, where she was also Director of Education. In addition, combining her love of youth work and the outdoors, Cantor Abramson spent several years as Assistant Director of Shwayder Camp in the Colorado Rockies.
Cantor Abramson holds a B.A. in Anthropology from Grinnell College and brings a strong international commitment to her social justice work, having lived in Cameroon, West Africa, taught English in Indonesia, and conceived an Israeli and Arab teenage choir as part of the international peace program, Building Bridges for Peace. In her cantorateshe has been a passionate teacher, with specializations in the intersection of the arts and Jewish life, and in women’s leadership and learning. Her article, “Wrestling with the Gender Politics in Mi Sheberach,” was published by Lilith in 2018.
In New York, Cantor Abramson has sung at Merkin Concert Hall and with the Canadian Chamber Orchestra of New York. She is a featured soloist on Shirei Teshuvah, a collection of music for the Days of Awe. Cantor Abramson has also served as Hebrew coach to the Chicago Symphony Chorus. She is married to Rabbi Jonathan Malamy, and they reside in lower Westchester with their seven-year-old son.
The Archives Committee
The Archives Committee is one of Holy Blossom Temple’s oldest continuing committees. It oversees the acquisition, preservation, security and accessibility of the synagogue’s historical records – ranging from current items to materials all the way back to the synagogue’s founding in 1856.The committee facilitates research for the synagogue Board, staff and congregants as well as outside community members and scholars. It is responsible for the Cantor Benjamin Z. Maissner and Holy Blossom Temple Music Archive and Library. The Archives Committee communicates the synagogue’s own story through exhibitions, classes and presentations, both written and online.
