YAD: Next Gen Backyard Havdalah and Pool Party hosts Elon Gilad

Join us as we start a new summery week together and say goodbye to Shabbat in true YAD style. This year, we are excited to have a guest speaker join us, Elon Gilad, for a L’Chaim and a talk:
“From Sababa to Balagan: Hebrew Words with Wild Backstories.” Elon riffs on everyday Hebrew words like balagan, sababa, firgun, and siut, sharing quirky etymologies and cross-cultural roots—from Russian barracks to Aramaic nightmares.
Elon Gilad is an Israeli author, historian, and journalist renowned for his insightful explorations of language, culture, and history. A contributor to Haaretz, he writes about the evolution of the Hebrew language, the origins of words, and the culture. This event is $18 a head, with bevvies and grilling treats provided.
