Eran Yaakov Shafir is a rabbi, a Jewish educator, a social entrepreneur, and activist. Since the immediate aftermath of October 7, 2023, Rabbi Shafir has been the Director of Moshav Ein HaBesor, a community of 1,200 residents in the Gaza envelope.  Having led their rehabilitation efforts, Rabbi Shafir has witnessed profound transformations, as well as community growth born out of rupture and hope.

Previously, Rabbi Shafir served as the Director of Sefaria in Israel, a teacher of sacred texts at the Midrasha in Oranim, in the Jezreel Valley and an advocate for pluralistic Judaism through pre-army leadership programs across the country.  He is one of the founders of Eliav, a pluralistic community in the northern Negev and led an NGO for civic equality in Israel. He directed the International Relations Department for the Leo Baeck Education Center in Haifa, has served as a community emissary of the Jewish Agency in London, England, and was a Jewish Agency Regional Director in Canada.
