Dear Congregants and Friends,

We emerge from our celebration of Pesach, Festival of Freedom, with mixed emotions of grief, anger, and fear. The shooting at the Chabad synagogue in Poway, California came six months to the day after the attack on The Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Call to Action: #ShowUpForShabbat. It’s just that simple.

Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, who was wounded in Poway calls on Jews everywhere to #ShowUpForShabbat. To hear his message from the hospital room, click here.

Let’s draw strength from one another, draw life-wisdom from words of Torah and tap into the faith of our ancestors who composed the words and melodies of our prayerbook. External threats are less frightening when internal faith is strong. Let’s overcome worry with confidence, hate with compassion, and loneliness with solidarity.

Join those who have already pledged to #ShowUpForShabbat.

Share the message with your friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues. If you are able to attend services, please tweet and post on Facebook about your Shabbat plans using the hashtag #ShowUpForShabbat. You can share our posts directly from our Facebook and Twitter.

To help out as an usher or greeter, please email [email protected].

After observing Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day, this week, let’s celebrate the resilience of the Jewish people. I look forward to being with you this Shabbat as we go from strength to strength.

L’Shalom,

Rabbi Yael Splansky
