HOLY BLOSSOM TEMPLE welcomes back OPERA ATELIER in Celebration of Shabbat Shira
Sunday, February 1, 3:00 pm
Debussy’s haunting fairy tale takes place in the depths of a forest—a metaphor for the unconscious, for dreams and for the unknown.
From Hansel and Gretel, to Wind in the Willows, to Sondheim’s Into the Woods, the forest has become synonymous with primal instincts and danger, and no one has explored this with greater mastery than Claude Debussy.
Featuring music by Debussy and Sondheim performed by Opera Atelier Artist-in-Residence Measha Brueggergosman-Lee and Cantor David Rosen, with pianist Christopher Bagan. They will be joined by members of the creative team sharing insights into the production, including Co-Artistic Directors Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg, Music Director David Fallis, and Resident Set Designer Gerard Gauci. Refreshments will be served in the Schwartz/Reisman Atrium following the one-hour presentation.
Our event will be further enhanced by international visual artist Elizabeth Greisman, who will capture in real time, the beauty of this journey into the woods. Elizabeth brings her creativity and a deep love of collaborating with performing arts organizations, offering a visual interpretation that responds directly to what unfolds in person.
