Azamrah: A Shabbat of Song
January 14 & 15
Cantor Benjie Ellen Schiller and the Return of Temple Singers
If there is one thing we have become accustomed to during the Pandemic, it is last-minute change! Due to the recent surge of Omicron and our new restrictions, we have no choice but to postpone our composer-in-residence Shabbat with Cantor Benjie Ellen Schiller until the spring. Shabbat Shira was also supposed to mark the return of our beloved Temple Singers and all of us were very much looking forward to this long-overdue reunion.
We will of course still mark Shabbat Shira with glorious song and learning as Cantorial Soloist Lindi Rivers and I will present a Sermon-in-Song on songs of hope and healing. This presentation will include several new selections that will warm your spirit and open your heart to celebrate what we have been able to accomplish during these past 20 months and what we can look forward to in the months to come. Our service will also be enhanced with a small ensemble of incredible musicians.
I am working with Cantor Schiller and our Temple Singers to find a date in the spring that will be conducive to present the music of our originally planned Shabbat and I know it will be worth the wait for all of us when we can all be together and celebrate in harmonious song and prayer.
