Shabbat Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Michael Zedek Book Talk

September 21 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Starts In:

Shabbat Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Michael Zedek Book Talk

Rabbi Michael Zedek will join the Holy Blossom Temple community, as Shabbat scholar-in-residence, September 20-22, 2024. Mark your calendars.

Rabbi Zedek is well-known in the United States for his knowledge, wit, storytelling, teaching, and leadership. But he is not widely known in Canada. Holy Blossom Temple intends to change that. As Shabbat scholar-in-residence, you will have several opportunities to learn with and from him, including:

  • Friday, September 20, 6:00 pm: Kabbalat Shabbat Drash
  • Saturday, September 21, 9:00 am: Shabbat Morning Torah Study
  • Saturday, September 21, 10:30 am: Shabbat Morning Sermon

And … on Sunday morning, following Shacharit services and breakfast (https://holyblossom.org/worship/), Rabbi Zedek will help to get us ready for the High Holy Days by discussing the themes of his highly acclaimed book, Taking Miracles Seriously: A Journey to Everyday Spirituality, for which Holy Blossom’s very own Gillian Rosenberg was developmental editor. You will also have a chance to purchase a personalized, signed copy of the book for your home library.

Please RSVP (coming soon!) to attend the book talk, so we know how many people to prepare for. There will be a Zoom option, as well, with the link provided once your RSVP is received.

Everyone is welcome, free of charge, thanks to the following sponsors:

Rabbi Yael Splansky
Sutherland House Books
Mark Anshan and Brenda Spiegler
David and Gillian Rosenberg

If you would also like to sponsor the weekend, please contact Shira Lester at [email protected]. Donations of $18 or more are tax receiptable.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Rabbi Zedek draws on a range of materials, such as biblical tales, Indian and Japanese folklore, poetry and prayer, and the works of St. Augustine, Einstein, Isaac Bashevis Singer, and Groucho Marx, to take readers on an original and entertaining search for spiritual sustenance in everyday life. To set the tone, Rabbi Zedek says “We don’t need to be only serious when we explore serious ideas about God.”

ABOUT THE RABBI
For decades, Rabbi Zedek’s teachings have provided inspiration to colleagues and congregants alike. He has been the spiritual leader at Emanuel Congregation (Chicago), the Senior Rabbi of Temple B’nai Jehudah (Kansas City), and the Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. He is the founder and co-host of a weekly radio show, called Religion on the Line, and a regular keynote speaker at Rancho La Puerta, the oldest and most renowned spirituality spa centre in North America. In these roles, he has received numerous awards, including a Fulbright-Hays Grant, and was honored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
