Supporting our Family in Israel

For the past 12 weeks, Israelis have been protesting against the current Israeli government. In support of those Israelis, rallies have been held worldwide, including in Toronto. Local Israelis have organized the events and they invite diaspora Jews to join them to show support. Their grassroots organization is called UnXeptable

Last Sunday Rabbi Splansky addressed the rally. Her message was heartfelt and important:

“Diaspora Jews recognize and respect that the citizens of Israel have primary responsibility for the direction of the state, that Diaspora Jews do not have a vote but we do have a voice, and that we have the right and the responsibility to use it. We are standing with our family and friends who have taken to the streets in Israel and they are the best evidence that Israel’s democracy is strong and must remain strong.”

The weekly protests will continue in Israel until the drastic legislation is taken off the table and more moderate views prevail.

This week the rally in Toronto will be on Sunday, April 2 at 4:00 pm at Nathan Phillips Square.

While Holy Blossom Temple is not an organizer for this action, we encourage our members to act according to their conscience, to represent our shared Jewish love for Israel, and to be engaged in this ongoing conversation.
