Rabbi Zachary Goodman’s Installation Celebrations

Kabbalat Shabbat Service led by Rabbi Goodman, Followed by Shabbat Dinner and Learning from Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Gary P. Zola, Executive Director of the American Jewish Archives
“Golden Threads:  North American Jews and their Ethical Wills”
Drawing from the American Jewish Archives, Dr. Zola will explore a selection of remarkable ethical wills and what they teach us of American and Canadian Jewish history.  These legacy texts will inspire us to consider the moral lessons we ourselves would want to bequeath to the next generation.

9:00-10:00 AM: Shabbat Morning Torah Study with Dr. Gary P. Zola
“What this week’s Torah Portion can teach us about North American Jewish History.” Drawing from the little known Hebrew commentaries and poetry of Gershon Resenzweig (1861-1914), Dr. Zola will illuminate the weekly parashah as well as the experience of Jewish immigration at the turn of the last century.

 

10:30 am: Shabbat Morning Service, including the Ceremony of Installation for Rabbi Zachary Goodman
Dr. Gary P. Zola will address the congregation and offer a blessing. Rabbi Goodman will share his response.

A celebratory congregational Kiddush-luncheon will follow in honour of Rabbi Zachary and Katie Goodman and their visiting families. All are most welcome.
