Dorot Presents: Moroccan Memories: The Art of Nessim Sibony

November 29, 11:30 am

For this program, we mark a newer Israeli holiday called Yom HaPlitim, a day to honour stories of Jewish exodus from Arab lands and the communities lost to these exiles. Using the work of Nessim Sibony, an ethnographer and painter based in Los Angeles, as our lens, we’ll explore Moroccan Jewish customs, rituals, childhood toys and games… portraits of a community that once thrived in Marrakech. Join his niece — and Holy Blossom’s Adult Education Coordinator, Sharoni Sibony — for an illustrated talk that spotlights some of his richly symbolic paintings and reveals the layers of Moroccan memories in his work.

Register here today! You can join us online or in person!

Followed by lunch (approx. 12.15 pm), and Games in the Schwartz/Reisman Atrium (1 pm-3 pm).

The Dorot program is sponsored by a gift from Elen Steinberg in memory of her father Vladimir Steinberg, z”l
