Rabbi Nir Barkin, a sixth-generation Jerusalemite, is the Senior Rabbi and Executive Director of YOZMA, the vibrant Reform congregation of Modiin, Israel.

Rabbi Barkin returned to YOZMA from his previous position as IMPJ founder and director of the “DOMIM – aLike” project – a joint effort of the Government of Israel and the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism, to strengthen relationships between Israel and Progressive Jewish communities around the world.

Nir graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies at Tel Aviv University.

He received his master’s degree in Contemporary Jewish Studies from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.  From 1999 to 2003, he worked as a communityShaliach in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Rabbi Nir Barkin was ordained at the Jerusalem campus of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 2007.

Nir is married to Anat and they are proud parents of Amit (and Roei Friedberg), Omri and Assaf, and proud grandparents of Ilay Friedberg.
