Gilad Kariv is an attorney and a rabbi. He served five years in the IDF’s Intelligence Corps. He studied law at Hebrew University, earned one Masters degree in Jewish Studies from Hebrew Union College and another in Constitutional Law from Northwestern and Tel Aviv Universities. From 2003-2009, Rabbi Kariv served as the Director of the Israel Religious Action Center, the legal and activist wing of the Reform Movement in Israel. There he tackled issues of freedom of religion, relations between religion and state, conversion, and many other social causes. Since 2009, as the Executive Director of the IMPJ, Rabbi Kariv has expanded the work of the Reform Movement, advanced its stance among the Israeli public, established new Reform congregations throughout the country, and obtained government recognition of the Movement’s activities.
