MAGDA FISHMAN is a Cantor, singer-musician, who is building a large and loving following among a wide spectrum of audiences.
She performs a unique blend of traditional and contemporary styles. Her repertoire includes Israeli songs, jazz, liturgical masterpieces, musical theater and her own compositions.
Magda served in the Israeli Army Orchestra as vocal soloist and trumpet player. She has performed extensively in Israel, Europe, and throughout the United States and Canada. She came to the United States as part of the Tel-Aviv Broadway Musical Theater Project and is the recipient of the prestigious America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship. She has performed at the Kennedy Center, the National Gallery of Canada, the First Night Festival in Boston, the 92nd Street Y Festival, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Baked Potato Jazz Club in Los Angeles, the New Jersey
Performing Arts Center, the Walter Reade Theater, Town Hall, Prague State Opera, and most recently at AIPAC, the Apollo Theater, the Israeli Embassy in Washington, Central Park Summerstage and countless other venues large and small.
She was featured at the annual American-Israel Culture Foundation Gala at Jazz at the Lincoln Center, Rose Theater. She also performed for Folksbiene (the National Yiddish Theater) in an event honoring Elie Weisel. She is featured in the Folksbiene’s popular concert “Soul to Soul” which celebrates Yiddish and African American music.
Most recently she was featured at the Saban theater in Los Angeles along with Maestro Placido Domingo and Mellisa Manchester and at the USCJ Centennial concert in Baltimore where she was a lead performer.
Cantor Fishman is performing all over the U.S.A and Canada with her group and as part of “soul to soul” ( The folksbine) and Divahs on the Bimah performing groups.
Cantor Fishman graduated from the Jewish Theological Seminary’s H.L Miller Cantorial School and is a member of the CA- Cantors assembly. She served as the Intern Cantor at CBST Manhattan and Sutton place synagogue and as Cantor of Temple Beth Am, Los Angeles and North Shore Synagogue. CANTOR RAPHAEL FRIEDER has served as Chazzan of Temple Israel of Great Neck for twenty seven years. His rich baritone voice and musical artistry are widely recognized both in America and in Israel, where he was born. A performer of classical, Jewish, and Israeli music, Raphael Frieder has sung with all of Israel’s major orchestras, as well as the Israeli New Opera. He appeared in venues from Carnegie Hall to Tel Aviv’s Mann Auditorium, including Vienna’s Volkstheater, and Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral. He has worked with some of the world’s leading conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Roger Norrington, and Leonard Bernstein, who chose him to perform the world premiere of his “Arias and Barcaroles” in Tel Aviv, followed by the European premiere in London. A featured soloist for the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music on the Naxos label, Cantor Frieder also made numerous recordings for Israel National Radio, and played the role of The Cantor in the hit film “Keeping The Faith.”
Raphael Frieder received his degree in voice and choral conducting at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv. Before moving to the US, e served as cantor of the Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue in London. He taught Chazzanut at the Academy of Jewish Religion in New York, and is currently in the faculty at the H.L. Miller Cantorial School of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
