From Casablanca to Toronto: A Moroccan Jewish Cooking Class with a Taste of History

Too often in our community, Ashkenazi Jewish culture is held up as the “default” Jewish experience. As graduates of the Emerging Jewish Leadership Institute at Holy Blossom Temple, and with gratitude towards the funding provided to us by the “Barry Silver Memorial Fund”, we want to help provide memorable experiences that broaden our understanding of Jewish identity.

So please join us for a cultural and culinary learning experience led by a talented mother-daughter duo. Learn to cook a delicious Moroccan feast as you savour their stories of Sephardic Jewish identity across continents and generations.

For the first hour, you will be guided through the preparation of two main dishes and three side salads. You will also receive recipes and quick demonstrations for an additional side salad and two small desserts that pair well with the meal. Then, as you enjoy your Moroccan Jewish feast, our guest chefs will share some Moroccan Jewish history intertwined with their incredible family stories.

You have the option to purchase your own ingredients ahead of time (a grocery list will be sent to you before the event), or you can arrange with Carina Newton at [email protected] to have a box of all necessary ingredients delivered to your home.
