Episodes in Jewish History
Presented by the Women of HBT
Wednesdays, weekly, 9:30 am
Bring your live questions to this weekly potpourri of episodes large and small in Jewish history. Temple member and lawyer Mark Goodman acts as our guide through the development of Jewish civilization from the Biblical days of wandering and the Temple sacrifice system to the evolution of rabbinic leadership and into modern life. Recent questions we’ve been pondering include: How did the Torah-reading cycle develop? Who are the Khazars? How do we place the Holocaust into broader conversations about Jewish history? This is an open, informal space for you to find answers and resources to your own questions, always evolving based on who joins the conversation. Previous knowledge of Jewish texts is not necessary and any shared texts will be provided in English.
Mark Goodman is a retired lawyer who has been a member of Holy Blossom since last century. He has studied and read Jewish history since his undergraduate days and has recently complete an M.A. in World War II Studies at Arizona State University. Presently he is enrolled in the Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Gratz College. You may have guessed, he doesn’t golf. He is the very proud husband of Avra Rosen and together they have two daughters, a son-in-law and a dog named Messi. Yes, he is also a soccer fan.
Episodes in Jewish History is now hybrid! Participants can join the study in-person at Holy Blossom, or continue to join us online at the Zoom link below:
