Pape Avenue Cemetery is the very first Jewish institution founded in Toronto, predating even the establishment of Holy Blossom Temple. On our visit there, we will look at the gravestones of some of the earliest Jewish settlers in our city and of the first leaders of Holy Blossom. We will also explore how the cemetery led to the development of Jewish life in Toronto. As well, we will examine how the cemetery reflects Jewish funerary practices.
Please note that the Pape Avenue Cemetery is quite accessible. Some of the paths are a little narrow but are negotiable by walkers and possibly even wheelchairs. There are no hills. Please bring a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat!
