A Dramatic Difference: Ben Hecht’s 1946 Play ‘A Flag Is Born’
During the years following World War II, and prior to the establishment of Israel, Jews and others throughout the world called on their governments to help usher in the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine. American journalist, author, screenwriter, and playwright Ben Hecht’s 1946 epic drama ‘A Flag Is Born’ went a long way toward galvanizing U.S. support for this endeavour. The play was a success on Broadway, toured to other American cities, and helped launch the career of its young star, Marlon Brando. For our Dorot program, Holy Blossom’s Rabbi Bill S. Tepper will share the play’s fascinating back story, production highlights, and outcome of the performance. Visual items, including production photos and information of interest, will enhance our learning experience.
