The Holy Blossom Centre for Contemporary Jewish Literature Presents: Contemporary Jewish Novels with Cynthia Good
Tuesdays, at 10:00 AM, October 2 – 23, 2018
The theme this year will be Celebrating Israel
Forest Dark by Nicole Krauss; A challenging novel that invites myriad interpretations and discussion. We are fortunate that Rabbi Satz will be joining us to contribute his knowledge and ideas to our discussion of this novel that looks beyond all that is visible toward the infinite.
Strangers with the Same Dream by Alison Pick (Canadian)
Strangers With the Same Dream is at once a novel of large ambitions and personal conflicts; of power and betrayal – and the optimism of the characters that they are working towards the creation of a country.
Suddenly a Knock on the Door & Lieland – two Etgar Keret stories (Israel)
For Keret, daily life is complicated, dangerous, and full of yearning. From one of the most original writers of his generation, these two stories explore the subject of ‘stories’ in a way that only Keret can – with originality, absurdity and brilliant writing. This also gives us the opportunity to discuss the short story form.
