Contemporary Jewish Fiction with Cynthia Good

March 10 & 17; 10:30 – 11:30

A two-part series sponsored by Bonnie Lawrence Shear

The Man Who Saw Everything by Deborah Levy

In 1988 Saul Adler has been invited to Communist East Berlin to write a favourable essay about life there. Before he goes, his girlfriend shoots a photo of him standing on the crosswalk on Abbey Road, an homage to the famous album cover. An accident occurs, one that will change Saul’s life, although he does not know it at the time.

Deborah Levy is a three-time Booker nominee and this audacious novel blurs all boundaries: of time, gender, politics and art. Says The Guardian:

“Levy explodes conventional narrative to explore the individual’s place and culpability within history…One of the most unusual and rewarding novels of this or any year.”

Please join us in our discussion of this accomplished and provocative novel.

$15 for members, $25 for non-members
