A Common Thread: Celebrating the Untold Stories of the Tailor Project
Wednesday, May 1, 2019
A Common Thread celebrates the potential of refugees and their families to overcome adversity and establish safe and rewarding lives in Canada, from past to present, and is focused on shining a light on a vitally important but largely unknown episode in Canada’s history – the Tailor Project.
The Tailor Project was the first opportunity to bring Jewish families out of Europe to Canada after the Holocaust, helping them find a new home and a fresh start here in the garment industry. This event will help weave together the untold stories of the inspiring resilience of these Tailor Project Holocaust survivors and their children. It will also, for the first time, bring together in person some of the families involved in the original Tailor Project initiative, who will share their stories of survival and success.
Honoured guest speakers and participants will include:
- Larry Enkin, son of Max Enkin z”l, head of the original Tailor Project Initiative,
- Four Tailor Project families, who will share their stories of survival and success,
- Rabbi Yael Splansky of Holy Blossom Temple,
- Benjamin Z. Maissner, Cantor and Music Director of Holy Blossom Temple
- A Special guest speaker
Holy Blossom Temple’s doors will open at 6:20 pm, the event will commence at 7:00 pm. An exhibit of Tailor Project artifacts and mementos will be held onsite after the event starting at 8:30 pm. All are welcome for the reception in the Schwartz/Reisman Atrium for the reception and exhibit.
RSVP is required. Please RSVP via Eventbrite.
