The revolution of longevity is upon us. A variety of circumstances have changed the way we see ourselves as we enter life’s different stages. How does our faith tradition meet some of these new challenges?

In a three-part series, Rabbi Richard Address, founder and director of Jewish Sacred Aging® and the website jewishsacredaging.com, will explore our traditions, new and old, and how they relate to our lives. Through text study, the introduction of new rituals, and conversations about the “ART” of caregiving, these sessions will bring the important topics of our everyday lives into focus through our Jewish tradition.

  • April 26th -New Rituals: Judaism has generated a burst of creative responses that emphasize the power and need for ritual. In this discussion, we will review some of the new responses which include: signing an advanced directive, older adult co-habitation, removal of a wedding ring after mourning, and more.
  • May 3rd –Spiritual Foundations: Longevity is re-shaping our lives and our community. In this discussion, we will look at how a series of Torah Texts can provide a spiritual foundation for life’s third and fourth stages.
  • May 10th – The “ART” of Caregiving:We are all concerned about staying healthy as we age and even more so in light of the pandemic. Our tradition has created a pathway for a Jewish approach to Caregiving. Based on the 5th Commandment, we will explore how our tradition has embraced this new life stage.
