Make A Difference Through Volunteering

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Holy Blossom Temple. They provide a sense of meaning and purpose to many of our programs. Whether it is feeding the hungry, working with senior Temple members or serving on a committee, our volunteers get as much out of volunteering as they give. Whether you are available regularly, occasionally or for just one day a year, the Temple has something right for you.

Here are just some of the activities we could use your help with…

Bikur Cholim

The act of Bikur Cholim is a mitzvah, and by fulfilling it, we enrich each other’s lives.

How do I visit someone I don’t already know?
There are lots of ways to ‘break the ice’. Here are some ideas:

-Plan an activity; bring along playing cards, a book to read from, crossword puzzles, checkers, Scrabble, interesting photos, a small gift.
-Go for a walk.
-Start a conversation. Some things to talk about: Holy Blossom Temple, current events, community developments, art and music, jokes, movies.

Take the time to connect with other congregants, either to visit or be visited. For more information, please click here to email us at Bikur Cholim.

Out of the Cold

Opens its doors to those in need every Thursday night, between November and March. Volunteers shop, set up, cook, clean and serve dinner to 100 guests and provide overnight shelter for about 40 homeless guests.  We strive to fulfill the spirit of tikkun olam (repairing the world) by making guests feel welcome and respected. For more details, please leave a message on our Out of the Cold hotline at (416) 789-3291, ext. 508 or click here to send and email to OOTC.

Lay Service Leaders/Shiva Leaders/Lay Cantors/Ushers/Gabbayim

Conduct Morning/Evening Weekday Services, help on the bimah, chant Torah and Haftarah, usher in guests and lead Shiva Services in congregants’ homes.

Twice a month, the Holy Blossom Temple Singers inspire us with the beautiful music they help create during our Shabbat Morning Services. To help with Services call us at (416) 789-3291, ext. 246 or click here to email us.

If you know you’d like to volunteer but are not sure how we could best take advantage of your time and talent, call us at (416) 789-3291, ext. 276 or click here to send an email and we’ll chat!
