Cantor David Rosen is delighted to be joining the clergy team as the Senior Cantor of Holy Blossom Temple. Born and raised in Toronto, Cantor Rosen has spent the past six years with Congregation Kol Ami in White Plains, New York, after having served with distinction at synagogues in Toronto and New Jersey.
Cantor Rosen graduated from York University with a degree in Psychology and Advanced Jewish Studies. He then attended the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion where he received a Masters of Sacred Music and was ordained as a Cantor in 2003.
David brings a depth of talent and many years of experience to his new role as Senior Cantor. During his time at Kol Ami, he helped shape the musical and liturgical landscape of the congregation. He greatly enhanced the worship experience by including renowned musicians that regularly performed on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall and other world class venues. Cantor Rosen conducted three different choirs that participated in worship and concerts on a regular basis. He recently co- produced Shabbat in the Woods, a recording featuring the voices of over 600 children from his congregation’s Preschool and Religious School. In addition to his musical and liturgical projects, Cantor Rosen supervised the B’nei Mitzvah Program, helping to prepare on average fifty students a year for this life cycle milestone.
Cantor Rosen is a sought-after performer of Jewish and secular music, having performed in concerts across the United States, Canada and Europe. His rich and versatile baritone voice has allowed him to sing a wide repertoire of music, from traditional Chazzanut to the Broadway showtunes. He recently starred in Opera Breve’s production of Carmen as the Escamillo (The Toreador) and has been a featured soloist with the Westchester Wind Ensemble. His voice can also be found on Transcontinental Jewish Music’s recent publication of Niggun Anthology lll.
Cantor Rosen has been a mentor and teacher to many young cantors in the field and currently serves as adjunct faculty at the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music at HUC-JIR. David is an active member of the Executive Board of the American Conference of Cantors, where he sits on the ethics committee and the admissions panel. He is also a member of the Cantors’ Assembly and a past president of the Toronto Council of Hazzanim.
Cantor Rosen is married to Rabbi Ilyse Glickman (also from Toronto). Along with their eight year old son Joel and their adorable shih-tzu Molly, they are looking forward to joining the Holy Blossom sacred community this summer.
