Nancy Lerner, Vice President, Tikkun Olam
I have been a member of Holy Blossom since 2019. Soon after joining, we were in the midst of COVID and I reached out to the leadership at Holy Blossom to explore any way in which I could volunteer in helping our community. As a new grandparent, I was asked to lead an informal, “Grandparents Group”, as we were all struggling with physical distance from our families, be it thousands of miles away or just around the corner. We shared resources, ideas and supported each other through a very difficult time. I then had the great fortune of joining the Interfaith Committee at Holy Blossom at a time when distance and isolation proved to be so motivating in bringing our faith partners together in meaningful learning and events. Additionally, one of the most important experiences I have had was being part of the Search Committee for our Rabbis McCarroll and Kaye.
I was very grateful to be invited to join the Board of Directors last year and have the honor of being the VP of Tikkun Olam. As Jews, we are called upon to make this world more just, tolerant and peaceful. Holy Blossom is a true leader in its efforts to “repair the world.”
My partner Gary Grundman and my daughter Talia Rotman are also members of Holy Blossom. I retired in 2019 from the TDSB where I served as principal and special education advisor for many years. In all of my roles in school leadership, I prioritized and valued the importance of bringing communities together. Currently, I am in private practice as an Educational Consultant.
