On October 29, 2013 the Bikur Cholim committee held its 5th Annual Soup Brigade.
These soups will be enjoyed over the coming winter months by those in our Holy Blossom community in need.
Our guest chef was Temple member Marla Hertzman, who has the distinct record of attending every Soup Brigade, as well as continuing her many years of volunteering for Bikur Cholim.
You can follow her on her blog, LoveThyCarrot.com.
Greg Mahon has donated the containers each year and we are thankful.
The Holy Sprouts organic farmer’s market had packaged and frozen their unused produce, some of which we were gratefully able to use. Marla commented on the superb taste of the tomatoes!
The evening was cordial and relaxed, and of course offered some Torah study.
Yasher Koach to Rabbi Teri Appleby for back to back study sessions.
Two texts relevant to Bikur Cholim were discussed: one on the “obligations without measure” from the Mishnah (included in our morning liturgy), and the other on the weekly parashat, Toldot, where the comfort of food plays into the narrative.
Our commitment is ongoing and anyone can be part of it.
