There are few of us who attend Jewish events who don’t enjoy terrific music, along with the food of course.
Imagine if we could attend synagogue and experience events such as Friday night services accompanied by a full-fledged band, made up of guitars, bass, piano, clarinet, flute, banjo, drums, and even an accordion or fiddle from time to time! That’s exactly what many of us witness when the Neginah band joins Cantor Maissner, our rabbis and congregants to welcome Shabbat.
Every week Kabbalat Shabbat is a joyous time, when we set aside our weekly activities in favor of the spiritual interlude that takes hold as soon as we kindle the Shabbat candles. While we are accustomed to bands at weddings and bar mitzvahs, what better place to have a live band than at Temple on Friday night. Please consider joining us for this special Kabbalat Shabbat service every second Friday of the month, when our volunteer musicians, all Temple members, enhance our service with musical accompaniment to our traditional melodies. As with all Kabbalat Shabbat services we begin at 6.00 p.m., in the Youth Chapel.
By the way, Cantor Maissner is always looking for new band members. So if you have just learned to play or played an instrument in high school, were in a marching band, a volunteer orchestra or even a klezmer jam group, your participation is welcome. No instrument is disqualified -although we know that cellists and harpists are hard to come by!
