Renewal construction updates (almost) as they happen, for the week of June 27th.
These past couple of weeks on our Renewal Project saw a continuation of exploratory, interior demolition work, in preparation for the heavy exterior demolition, scheduled to begin soon. Temporary power units have arrived on-site and are now connected, enabling our trades to continue working, once power to the construction area has been fully disconnected.
As you know, Phase 1 of Renewal includes our magnificent, light-filled central Atrium, Library, Café, Youth Lounge, Family Chapel and more, all in a LEED Silver Certified, environmentally-friendly building. It also includes much needed, brand new heating and cooling systems. For now, large temporary heating and cooling units have arrived onsite and sit outside on the north side of the Sanctuary. Once sound barriers have been installed around these units, and the walls and windows of the Sanctuary are adequately protected, they’ll provide heating and cooling for the Sanctuary until our new permanent units arrive next year.
Additionally, as part of this project, we’ve been developing a new fire safety plan, in conjunction with Toronto Fire and our own consultants. As part of this plan, all of our fire control equipment will be relocated to the new, north stairwell.
And now that summer has officially begun, we’d just like to remind you that all High Holy Day services and programs will be taking place on-site this fall. We’ll be using the Main Sanctuary, Philip Smith Congregational Hall, 3rd floor Youth Chapel, and various other spaces within our School Wing. Specific services and room assignments are still being finalized, so please look for more information during the summer months in these bi-weekly Life at Holy Blossom updates.
As always, we thank you for your support. We also thank those of you who were able to attend our recent “A More Open House” celebration. For those unable to attend, stop by sometime this summer and we would be happy to point out all of the ongoing activity!
