Advocacy @ HBT: The week of August 15, 2025

Advocacy @ HBT: CIJA and other leading Jewish groups express extreme alarm over the PMO’s statement regarding Palestinian statehood. TIFF Reverses Course and allows screening of Israeli Documentary “The Road Between Us.”  

• Sign onto CIJA’s Statement for the Prime Minister, “No recognition without real peace.” 
• Use CIJA’s action hub to contact your MP, “Do not reward terrorism with recognition.”  

With the PMO announcing its intent to recognize a Palestinian state in September, CIJA has two action items for those who wish to voice their concern that the Prime Minister is breaking with established Canadian foreign policy. You can add your voice to the first statement HERE, intended for Prime Minister Carney, and utilize the action hub to contact your MP by clicking HERE.   

Additionally, on Wednesday, the Toronto International Film Festival cancelled its invitation for filmmakers to screen “The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue” at the festival. The film, created by Canadian filmmaker Barry Avrich, tells the story of Noam Tibon, a retired IDF general. Tibon and his allies made heroic sacrifices to save his son and family from their home on Kibbutz Nahal Oz on October 7th. You can learn more about this incredible story here.  

Thursday, after an outpouring of support for the creators of the film and bafflement with TIFF, the festival reversed course. This is a clear win for the advocacy work our community has built over the last few years. You can read complete coverage here.
