Dorot (Generations)
Dorot is your place to connect, to be supported and to come together. Your home with fellow community members in your generation and beyond. We are a collaborative team of Temple volunteers, clergy and lay leaders who are here to support you the older adults – our Wisdom Generation. We meet your intellectual and spiritual needs. We create stimulating and dynamic programming. We are also here to connect and to support you and the generations in your lives with programming geared to connect the community with all generations as a whole.
L’dor va’dor (from Generation to Generation):
We are a caring community that transcends across generations. The target audience is members over 65, who we call the Wisdom Generation. The goal is to be here to support congregants and to recognize the variety of their needs for meaningful programming.
Dorot provides programs for multi generations, that allow people to connect with each other, that encourages them to feel comfortable to reach out, and that helps them integrate into the community. This is a place where families can also gather and partake in programming, where their parents and loved ones, caregivers and intergenerational family are also welcome to connect as a community under Kehilla Kedosha to be involved, and participate.
Initiatives through Dorot include:
- Weekly games in the Schwartz/Reisman Atrium, including chess, mahjong, canasta, Rummycube, and more.
- Monthly “premiere” programs, with a catered lunch and learn educational and entertaining. Aimed at intellectual stimulation in many facets, from musical performances to cooking demonstrations, to art history lectures to health information sessions!
- Health and wellness initiatives, such as monthly mindfulness and gentle yoga, and Tai Chi.
- Exclusive outings to special art and cultural iniatiatives, Jewish heritage sites around Toronto and more.
- Outreach phone calls to members of our Wisdom Generation, to both inform them of our programming but also to check in. Hundreds of phone calls, and therefore hundreds of connections, have been made so far.
All programming is facilitated by the Dorot Committee.
The Dorot program is generously sponsored by Carole and Jay Sterling and Family.
