Continuing our community’s focus on Truth and education, we will learn about the complex history of Jewish encounters with Indigenous peoples in Canada. Professor Koffman teaches that “Jews have contributed to Indigenous displacement as they have sought to make Canada their home, and have fought against Indigenous disenfranchisement while seeking to make Canada a better home.” Come to ask questions and learn about how our ancestors and members of our congregation have interacted – for better and for worse – with Indigenous Canadians.
David S. Koffman is the J. Richard Shiff Chair for the Study of Canadian Jewry at York University, and became Bar Mitzvah at Holy Blossom Temple.
