In Our Virtual Mishkan, youth

As we continue to remain physically distant from one another, we remain busy coming up with creative ways to make connections and ways for our young people to connect to their HBT community, and engage with each other.

The newest of these initiatives is Zoombooks: A Virtual Book Club for HBTweens in Grades 6-8.

Zoombooks will provide an opportunity for tweens to come together online 4 times a year, to share great books with each other.  Our hope is that Zoombooks will provide another opportunity to bring our youth together, and have them engage in meaningful conversations where they can learn and share thoughts and opinions, develop communication skills, as well as create connections with each other.  The books that will be reviewed were carefully curated, and cover a variety of topics.  Each one has a link to Judaism and will generate conversations that are current and topical to being a tween today.

The unique twist in this book club model is that the facilitators will be older teens!  This creates a unique opportunity for our tweens to learn from older teen role models, and for our teen facilitators to gain valuable leadership experience and engage with the cohort of tweens below them.

HBT’s invaluable volunteer librarian Caroline Ingvaldsen has chosen the booklist and will be working with the teen facilitators to train and prepare them for each meeting.
