In Featured at HBT, Reflections: Rabbi Zachary Goodman

?אִם אֵין אֲנִי לִי, מִי לִי? וּכְשֶׁאֲנִי לְעַצְמִי, מָה אֲנִי? וְאִם לֹא עַכְשָׁיו, אֵימָתַי

“If I am not for myself, who will be? If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?” – Pirkei Avot 1:13

These words pulled from our rabbinic literature apply in so many avenues of our lives. They teach us the importance of self-confidence, humility and action; that each individual should regard themselves as important, should regard the stranger as equally important and should make an effort to make the world a better place through acts of chesed and generosity.

Under the leadership of Rabbi Jordan Helfman, the Young Adult Division (YAD) group at Holy Blossom has flourished into a very robust program. We gather together for Shabbat dinners, celebrate holidays together, and take part in serious Jewish learning! Since I arrived at Holy Blossom this summer, I have met an incredible group of motivated young people who have a variety talents, passions, and interests.

We have individuals who are signed up for Lishma education courses and are dedicated to deep Jewish learning and intra-denominational community building. The team organizing the YAD LEEDership campaign is committed to making Holy Blossom a Leed certified eco-friendly space and has already made an impact through their fundraising efforts. This High Holy Day season, YAD volunteers will be leading services for Holy Blossom’s 20s and 30s as well as running study sessions not only for this age cohort but for the larger community as well! In the coming year, we will have many social programs, volunteer opportunities, and ways of connecting with one another through Jewish values and living.

If you or someone you know falls between the ages of 19 and 39, and are looking for a community of kind and thoughtful young Jewish people, please reach out to me at [email protected] so we can get connected! I would love to meet you for coffee or a drink and better understand how Holy Blossom might play a role in your life!

We are committed to making HBT a place where you can belong. Not only as a participant but also as an official member of our community. Though our programming is open to all individuals in their 20s and 30s, thanks to generous donors to the Holy Blossom Congregational Appeal, we are able to offer membership at Holy Blossom Temple from no cost to low cost for those under 30.

In addition to gaining access to our clergy team and your own High Holy Day tickets, your membership also supports our ongoing programs to contribute to Israel, the Jewish community, and the world. Becoming a member at Holy Blossom can actually save you money! We offer discounted program pricing for our members, including our upcoming YAD trip to Israel! (Be on the look-out for more details about this trip in the coming months) Click Here for more information on how YOU can join the Holy Blossom community!
