Music and Art: Living Memory

7:00 pm | November 6, 2019

As part of our Beny2020 celebrations, there will be a special concert on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, during Holocaust Education Week called Music and Art: Living Memory. The Cantor and musicians will perform songs rescued from the Holocaust in an evening that is positive and affirming and will reflect the survival of human dignity through the arts.

The evening begins with young people singing the Victory March from the children’s opera Brundibar, by Hans Krása, which was performed more than 50 times in the Terezin ghetto. This stirring March became an extraordinary anthem for them, a symbol of hope. Budding choristers, ages 8 and older, will have the chance to sing the Victory March at the concert.

The rehearsals and performance will be managed by Helena Fine, a professional arts administrator who stage the first production of Brundibar in Toronto more than a decade ago. The conductor is Renee Bouthot, a highly experienced choral leader, educator and performer. Bouthot is a multi-talented artist who taught and led many children’s productions, including productions of Brundibar.

If you want your children to be part of the choir for this song, just fill out this simple online form on their behalf. Click here to register!
