My membership at Holy Blossom Temple is very important to me
My membership at Holy Blossom Temple is very important to me. Growing up in a mixed-faith family, I was exposed to my mother’s Judaism and my father’s Catholicism through my grandparents, since neither of my parents were particularly religious. I used to learn all about the Jewish traditions and my family’s long history with Holy Blossom from my grandmother, Barbara Organ, who sadly passed away a few years ago. She taught me that Holy Blossom is a special place, for many reasons. One of the most important reasons in her eyes was that women were treated as equals at Holy Blossom; a concept that we should never take for granted. When I started to learn more about Judaism in my early adult years, I would take my grandmother to Saturday morning services. She would always tell me stories of her life at Holy Blossom, and encouraged me to get a part-time job at the Religious School, and to follow in her footsteps and volunteer at the Out of the Cold program.
I am sad that my grandmother never got to meet the love of my life, and my now husband Jeremy Korn. My grandmother and I had a very close relationship, and I know she would have loved him as much as I do. When Jeremy and I got engaged, we both knew that we wanted to have a Jewish wedding. It was immediately clear to me that Holy Blossom was the right place for us to celebrate this milestone in our new life together. When we met with Rabbi Splansky and became members, we both knew that we had found a place where our values were shared. We participated in a marriage class called “Beyond the Chuppah” which prepared us for our new life together and allowed us to meet other young couples at the temple. We have also stayed involved by participating in the Out of the Cold program, and volunteering to be the bride and groom for a mock wedding at the religious school to teach the 3rd grade students about Jewish Life Cycles.
We are happy to call Holy Blossom our home, and can’t wait to grow our family at the temple.
