Yom Yerushalayim / יום ירושלים
Yom Yerushalayim, also known as Jerusalem Day, commemorates Jerusalem’s reunification in 1967. This day begins on 28th day of the month of I’yar in the Hebrew calendar. This year, Yom Yerushalayim begins at sundown on Saturday, May 12, 2018. This day is declared in Israel as a national minor religious holyday thanking God for victory in the Six-Day War and for answering the 2,000-year-old prayer of Next Year in Jerusalem.
Around the world, Jewish communities mark Yom Yerushalayim with a range of events. In some communities, recitations of the Hallel prayer for praise and thanksgiving are included. Parties, singing and dancing, special meals and lectures on the history and future of Jerusalem are common throughout. In Jerusalem itself public reception by the mayor of Jerusalem, state ceremonies and memorial services for those who died in the Six-Day War are also held.
This year, to mark Yom Yerushalayim and Israel’s 70th Anniversary, Holy Blossom Temple is honored to announce a special celebration marking the day:
