“Repentance, Forgiveness, and Responsibility: Emmanuel Levinas’s Famous Talmudic Reading”

In 1963, at a meeting of French Jewish intellectuals on the topic of “Forgiveness,”  Levinas gave a Talmudic reading called “Toward the Other.”  The text he discussed is from the Talmud, Yoma 85a-b and 87a-b.  This famous text raises interesting questions about repentance, forgiveness, and interpersonal relations.
