Israel Committee and the Musical Heritage Committee join together in an extravaganza celebration.

Yom Ha’atzmaut at Holy Blossom

This year’s Israel independence is celebrated in a special way.

Toronto’s renowned international group, Jaffa Road revives ancient music and wisdom. The music ensemble of Jaffa Road uses diverse cultures and ancient wisdom to make thoroughly modern music.

Jaffa Road are a Canadian music group formed in 2005 in Toronto. The band was nominated for a 2010 Juno Award for their debut album, Sunplace, in the category World Music Album of the Year.

Jaffa Road’s music looks to the future by blending tradition with innovation and bringing together diverse musical languages that include Jewish roots, jazz, Indian and Arabic music, electronica, and dub. With onstage chemistry as electrifying as it is intense, the band mixes ancient and original poetry in Hebrew, Spanish and English with belly dance rhythms, pulsating dub grooves, exhilarating improvisations, and a global mix of instrumentation.

Jaffa Road’s latest release, Where the Light Gets In, has garnered another prestigious award. Following the nominations for a JUNO AWARD, and an Independent Music Award as well as winning an International Acoustic Music Award, and winning a Folk Music Ontario Award, they have now been awarded World Music Group of the Year at the CFMAs.   For links to read more about Jaffa Road just log onto www.jaffaroad.org.
