Upon putting up the previous posting, I was asked why the concentration (in my words and those of Jonathan Tobin’s) was on Chuck Hagel’s view of Iran–rather than on his alleged dislike of Israel or Jews.
The answer is simple: What President Obama will or won’t do these coming months vis a vis Iran is what matters most.
Still, that’s not the whole matter. Because what Obama does (with the help of the former Republican Senator, Mr. Hagel) with regard to US military spending and presence, alongside how both men view the Jewish State, are strong indicators of which cards the Obama White House will play with Iran. How President Obama plays his hand will determine whether Iran will go nuclear. To say nothing of a lot of other things.
Charles Krauthammer puts it all together succinctly in this morning’s Washington Post.
