The resolution about Israel that was passed last summer by the General Council of the United Church of Canada opened old wounds in the Jewish community. It reminded many of the anti-Israel invective pursued by the United Church Observer decades ago.
On the other hand, the United Church passed almost a decade ago a very impressive document, “Bearing Faithful Witness,” about Jewish-Christian relations. Many Reform rabbis maintain close relations with several United Church leaders: we belong in the same camp of liberal religion. With this in mind, we are inviting members of Holy Blossom Temple and their friends (Jewish and non-Jewish) to join us for a frank discussion about some of the issues between us. Dr Gregersen has been in the forefront of promoting the resolution.
Rabbi Marmur has close ties with the United Church. The two know each other well and hope that their exchange of views will clear the air.
